Experts answer your TOP five questions about collecting a fine art reproduction -"THE FINE ART PRINT"

Writer: Priya GorePriya Gore

Key valuable insights into collecting a Fine art reproduction of an original artwork you love but EITHER it is sold or your BUDGET isn’t yet there.

  1. What is a fine art reproduction? What all options does Priya Gore Art offer?

The term “Fine art reproductions” can be confused with “fine art prints”, and justifiably so. In the art world fine art print is associated with print making using etching, with rubber stamp or copper plates etc. which is a rare but age old skill in today’s art world. So now the term print is often used for reproduction of an image on a substrate like paper or canvas taken of an original painting which is done using a high quality machine printer. So fortunately or unfortunately, we won’t get into clarifying this confusion any further and will use terms print/reproduction interchangeably.

The first and the most important step of creating a quality fine art reproduction is to get an extremely high definition image of the original painting either by using high tech scanners or super expensive camera setups with studio lighting and photography skills. So when you decide to collect your first print, ask this question. Priya Gore Art use a fine art reproduction company based in Brisbane who are masters of this craft and have niche business expertise since 35+ years.

The next step is to process the digital file to create an image with colour correction and feel as close to the original painting as possible.

The next step is the use a state of the art printer and highly archival inks to produce the image on a substrate.

Priya Gore Art offers these reproductions on paper and/or canvas.

The paper is a beautifully hand crafted cotton rag paper, when people look at these prints they are left awestruck, literally!

Their first expression is “are these really prints, are you sure these are not original artworks?”

The prints on canvas are equally stunning with more durability due the no tear quality of the canvas and multiple layers of UV varnish to make the final piece of artwork last for 100+ years.

  1. How do I hang these?

The reproduction on paper needs to be framed behind a glass. If budget permits a UV plexiglass glass is recommended if the print is a collectable one. Also, an option to frame it behind not reflective glass is highly recommended if the budget permits. If not, just go for a glass frame with a suitable foam board backing and a matting around the print to avoid the artwork surface touching the glass. Also, choose a nice suitable wooden moulding for the actual frame. My recommendation is to increase the thickness of the frame border and the matt border as the artwork size increases.

The reproduction on canvas needs to be stretched on wooden high quality stretcher bars. Priya gore art exclusively uses gallery grade polycotton 300GSM canvas, same as the original paintings. Once the canvas is stretched, it is now ready to hang. To assure the beautiful appeal of the final hung artwork, Priya Gore art pays special attention to the sides of the canvas; the collector can either choose a plain colour for the sides preferably black or they can choose a look where artwork continues across the gallery wrapped sides. Amazing isn’t it?

Now, a gallery wrapped artwork on canvas, just by itself looks stunning as it is ready to hang but if someone has liking towards framing; Priya Gore Art recommends a high quality float timber frame to enhance the aesthetics of your room. The framing options provided are black, white and Tassie oak.

  1. How does the pricing work?

Price is the key consideration when it comes to collecting any art and specially when collecting an art print.

Priya gore art - fine art reproductions cost depends on the size and the substrate of artwork and not the artwork itself.

So you choose any artwork, doesn’t matter, what will decide the price is the substrate - paper or canvas?, the size?, framed/or just rolled in a tube etc.

  1. Who are the makers?

Priya Gore fine art prints are state of the art when it comes to look, feel and the quality. These are made in Brisbane by professionals with 35+ years experience in fine art reproductions. Highly archival giclee ink on a cotton rag textured art paper, a gallery grade cotton canvas with 3 layers of UV varnish to make it last for generations

  1. Authenticity and quality markers to look into?

  1. The look and the feel, it looks like a real piece of artwork, not just a print

  2. Certificate of authenticity signed by the artist

  3. Uncanny resemblance to the original artwork, you won’t be able to distinguish the original from the print, you know.

  4. The attention to detail like signature and the sides and  whether the artwork is ready to hang

  5. That’s all for now, if you have the artwork in your hands, just put a sturdy picture hanging hook on your wall and hang the painting. Following priyagoreart on instagram and join priyagore.art/club to learn more about how to hang a painting on different types of walls…

What I Do

Australian rainforests offer the abundance of natural wonder. The bush walks and coastal hikes replenish the emptiness of the soul with a long-lasting creative energy. Artist’s life revolves around the exploration of nature’s intricacies that are often hidden in the obvious.

Being in nature amongst the beautiful birds, animals, trees of the rainforest and the ocean has had profound effect on the artist’s mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing. Priya’s artwork tries to convey something beyond what we humans can encompass with our limited understanding of the nature and its power.
